You never know what you’ll find, if you wander in to a local house of worship. It may resonate, it may not. Sleuthing for a church home surely takes a bit of fearlessness. But the rewards – enrichment in your spiritual life, and a greater sense of connection and community – are well worth the effort.
Churches want to meet these needs, and they try to reach out. One sign, on California’s historic El Camino Real, is a perfect case in point. It reminds passers by how they’d been meaning to stop in, so why not now?
If you’d stopped in today in answer to that particular sign, you’d have found a strong worship band and an inspiring and timely sermon by Senior Pastor Stewart Perry on Matt 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.”
That sign belonged to New Life Community Church – originally First Baptist Church, and Burlingame’s first church, established in 1906. After a few years of ups and downs, the church has re-emerged strongly, so if you tried it a few years back, it’s worth giving it another shot. Or follow them on Facebook for a while, to see if they resonate. Details: 1430 Palm Drive, Burlingame CA. Website ~ Main FB page ~ Alt FB page.
It’s often said, “God is still speaking.” You just never know when a street sign (or a web post) might indeed be God’s invitation to you. As such, we at NHM Ministrants humbly invite you to explore our other offerings in case something resonates, and to give your “church down the road” a try, one day soon.
Blessings to you!
