WebGem: Empowerment in Detroit

Our October WebGem was selected because of how the founder explains her “aha!” vision:

Grateful thanks to Julie Benac, Production Manager of The Empowerment Plan, for permission to share the video above with you, and with our partners in India, for our Widows in India Status and Empowerment (WISE) project that also focuses on sewing for empowerment.

The Detroit-based nonprofit organization shown above is dedicated to serving the homeless community, hiring homeless women from local shelters to become full time seamstresses. These women manufacture a coat that transforms into a sleeping bag which is then given out to homeless individuals living on the streets at no cost to them.
