Mer·cy /ˈmərsē/ – Noun: Kind, benevolent treatment, especially when it is within one's power or rights to act harshly; forbearance.
It is within each of our power to show mercy, daily, in our own circles of influence. When we show mercy towards others, we help heal a hurting world. In the Christian tradition, theologians have identified both spiritual and corporal "works of mercy." These are:

Each of these works of mercy is grounded in scripture ( Isaiah 58:6-7; Matthew 6:2-4 & 25:31-46 ; Luke 3:11 & 11:41; John 3:17; James 2:15-16; Hebrews 13:3; and so on). Here are a few examples:
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? – Isaiah 58:6
Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. – Matthew 6:2-4
